YEARS: A Book of Writings

image

Last month my first self published book went live on CreateSpace. There’s not much for me to say other that it’s a compilation of my poetry & other writings in the last 5 years but a friend of mine who did purchase the book said this:

“Whoaaaaaaa. dude, page 5, suicide? WTF! No way, did anyone READ this and freak out?!”

Cop yours today and find out what else I’ve gone through. Who knows, maybe we have more in common than you think.

Can I lay by your side? Next to you?

This song is just pure sex. Sam Smith’s voice is buttery as fuck.

Rejection

I used to hate rejection. Who doesn’t?

Getting rejected by the one you like.
Getting rejected by a job.
Getting rejected by a school.
Getting rejected by a parent.

Rejection, in terms of achieving a goal, is the best thing that can happen to a person. It is typical to think you aren’t good enough but in actuality, it means you have more to learn, grow and invest; it will show you how much you want something.

The point of a rejection is to give you a mountain to remind you how big your goals are and how small you are in comparison. It is to inspire you to make moves.

And that move is up.

Top

I’ve been seeing a lot of posts where people are commenting on the impending success they’ll have and excluding people who don’t support them.

The problem I have with this is that no one can support you if you haven’t given them a reason to. No one knew you were even attempting [insert your goals here] if you never even told them. They don’t even talk to you on a daily basis. Your success is relevant only to you and people telling you “You got this!” is a form of a reminder; not the deciding factor.

You are responsible for your own happiness and success. You choose to make the decisions that will get you there in the end. No one else is in charge of that and if you expect someone to be, you don’t deserve to be on the top with the greats.

You deserve to start at the very bottom and remember to climb because there are many out there who still are and know the hustle. If you open your mind to help, you’ll find it. Each one, help one.

History

Anyone can lie. You can lie but when you make that decision, you have chosen to decide to alter history.

How? When you reveal the truth.

The longer you drag out the lie, the more history you will alter. In a nutshell, your actions between the lie and the revelation of the truth will rewrite the in-between.

Beware of lying.

Silence

I’ve come to love this silence that engulfs me every night. It understands my pain and my internal struggle.

i Appreciate

This marks the first time
I’m going to be asking this
So if you’ll allow me the honor
Of an honest answer
I would like to ask you

What do you appreciate?

You don’t have to answer right away
Here how about this
You think about it and let it come to you
And while you’re doing that
I will go first as a sign of good faith

Where do I even begin?
I’ll start with something easy

I appreciate the Internet
Reading YouTube, Facebook
And Instagram comments
Are all in a day’s laugh
Sending #selfie Snapchats to my buddies
And reading the newest gossip stories
Have y’all seen Amanda Bynes!?

I appreciate the beach
Nothing beats lying out
On a nice toasty and sunny day
Setting down a towel as your sheet
And molding the sand
To the contour of your body
Making the perfect bed for tanning
And that ocean breeze
Salty, smelly but for some reason
Always will it be refreshing

I appreciate my city
For me it’s the land
Where Angels are born
But make no mistake
There are no pearly white gates
Here you’ll find a glass towers
Inhabiting alongside a concrete jungle
Where dreams come to realize
They can become a reality

Let me share something more intimate

I appreciate the relationships I’ve made
Good, great, bad, and even broken ones
All of them have formed me in ways
Hitting the school books couldn’t

The good and great bonds have
Locked in my belief
That amazing people exist
That humanity has not been lost
Bittersweet though when my friends
Decide it’s time for us to get drunk

The bad and broken bonds have
Locked in my belief
That amazing people exist
That humanity has not been lost
Unfortunate when we
Are no longer friends

But I can’t leave any bonds
Broken or not
Behind
As people are not properties
People have rights
And I am not one to take rights away
For that makes it all wrong

I appreciate the people
Who I have never met
But are fighting for my safety
It doesn’t matter what I believe in
Or what my views of the government are

Politics aside

I live in a pretty fantastic country
Because at the end of the day
Someone has died for me to live in this city
Someone has died for me to eat a cupcake
Someone has died for the chance for us
To create our families
While they leave theirs at home
Knowing full well that a bullet
Will call their heads a home

I appreciate the teachers
Whose calling wasn’t math nor physics
Neither chemistry nor biology
Neither singing nor theater
Their calling was to inspire
To nurture those who’s calling
Were math or physics
Chemistry or biology
Singers or future actors/actresses
Majoring in not just a subject
Rather majoring in humanity itself

I appreciate this moment
This moment I am sharing with you
Because you are honoring my question
By thinking of an answer
Not just for me
But an answer for yourself

You have allowed me
To share my thoughts
Opinions and so far
Have respected my stance on life
And that is worth more
Than winning the Powerball

I appreciate the word itself
For it instills in a person their worth
It empowers positivity
That sends it racing through their veins
And into their hearts

My name is Matthew Nguyen
Some like to call me the One Peace Poet
And these are just
Some of the things I appreciate

What are yours?

Just

I just want to help cure the world from it’s nasty bitterness and grant the light to enter into people’s heart. Show them what they are worth to the world. Because, who knows, how long ago they last really felt the word “love”.

I just want to inspire.

Paralyzed from the waist down; sadness.

incredopeshit:

To all you pretty mother fuckers out there
I need you to do me a favor
It requires a little work
But I think it’ll be worth it
All you need is a pen, some paper
And the drive to grow stronger

Got it? Good

Now before we start writing
I need you to remember
Look from this point

Backwards

Think of all the pain you’ve had
Like that first heart break
Or like that one time
When you rushed
To the front lunch line
Only to find that
The chimichangas
Weren’t being sold that day
Maybe that time
You thought you studied for your exam
But got a C
You swore up and down
You had that A in the bag

Or remember when you first got your license
And how excited
You were to get behind the wheel
And when you did
You crashed your dads car?
Remember how afraid you were
Because all you kept thinking was

“Man, I am so FUCKED!”

Then there was that time
You tried out for the basketball team
You practiced your lay ups
Crossovers and three pointers
But come time to push through the crowd
To look at the “Made It” roster
You were not on it

Now remember the tough times
The times you thought
You couldn’t push through
Your personal darkness
Like remember that one day
When you felt really beautiful
And then those girls and boys
Broke your self-esteem
With Thor’s Hammer?
You went home
And cried your eyes out
Remember you wanted to die?
Because high school you still does

And who could forget the time
Your parents fought on a daily
Those nights where dinner wasn’t set
Dinner was who
Was going to sleep alone in the bed
Or when dinner
Was a mouth full of held in regrets
Thrown up all over the table
Remember how you believed
It was all your fault?

I know it’s hurting
But I need you to keep going
Dig deeper into your past
Because there is a richness
That exists inside only you

Remember those who
Have left you
That felt all too soon
Because six feet deep
Is a hell of a hole
On your very fragile soul

It’s hard
But remember those rough nights?
Those rough nights
That you stayed up
Thinking if it should
Be the very last time?

If you do
If you can
Then

Now

Write it all down
Remember it all
And write it all down
But don’t list it out
I want you to
Write yourself a letter
It will hurt
It will cramp your hands
I won’t lie
It might even make you cry
But push through it

I need you to
Push
Through
It

Done? Good!
Now seal it up!
Tuck it somewhere safe
Give it to a trusty friend
And have them give it to you
Come years end
Then I want you to read it
And when you’re done
Proceed to tear that shit up
Rip it to fucking pieces

Because with all that’s happened this year
Lets all remember to love one another
It is too easy for us to be bitter
To live in the hate
Or to curse the heavens
For the misdoings in our lives

With all that’s happened this year
Let us all remember
To appreciate one another
There are so many reasons
To love one another
To show respect to one another
And to show that compassion
For the people in our lives

With all that’s happened this year
Lets all remember to remember

Remember what broke you down
But remember what made you so much stronger

Remember those moments you
Felt so weak and helpless
But remember the moments
Where you were courageous
And became the hero

Remember how many steps you took back
But remember that you
Are not back at where you started
You are where you need to be to keep going

Remember the times you
Felt you were at your limits
But remember the times
When you had pushed beyond that

Remember that you are so much better
Than the failed person you think you are

But remember that
You have yet to learn everything there is

Remember that this is only the beginning

It’s important to count your blessings
But remember the countless struggles
You have conquered
Because look back now
And realize how much it has made you
That much stronger

Kendrick Lamar x Ashtrobot | Keisha’s Song (Her Pain)

This new poem I am working on goes out to every one in my life that I have noticed going through some shit. We all go through rough times whether it’s about failing an exam or losing a loved one or losing the one you loved.

It’s about you and how you as a person are stronger than you have led yourself to believe. That things will be okay for us if we just keep the light and move forward.

It’s time to move forward because sometimes the present can be as hurtful as the past since we have something to tell us what is true; the future can provide the answer you need. Move forward and find out.

It’s about knowing there are people who appreciate you because at the core of everything, we need to find the appreciate for the moments, the emotions, the thoughts, and the actions.

I’ll leave this here until I’ve finished my new piece but for now, I appreciate all of you.
